The Mexican Mint was founded in 1535, when the Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza arrived to the New Spain, bringing with him a royal order, from the Spanish Crown to establish the first Mint in America.
For three and a half centuries, silver and gold coined by the Mexican Mint, were the basis of money circulating in the country and became an export product.
